I thought I would be in a great mood today. I thought I would be going to have some adult conversation at my friend’s house and have some wine, and let my kids burn off some energy to bring in the new year! But I’m not. I’m in a bad mood, and not going to my friend’s because sickness invaded my home. My oldest daughter has spent the last three days on the couch, and you know she is sick if she is there! It’s not her fault, I know, if she could choose she wouldn’t want what she has. It just irks me though.

Speaking of the new year, I was updating my Goodreads list yesterday, and realized that I read 92 books this year! 92!!! That’s a lot of freaking books. How will I ever top that I wonder. I know that in part it had to do with the fact that I didn’t teach any classes last winter quarter, and just the kind of winter we had in general–lots of snow days. I love to read if you didn’t catch that, but I never thought I could read 92 books in a year. WOW! I’ve impressed myself. Now, I harbor no delusions that that will happen again. I am working more now than I ever have, and considering that 20 of those 92 were the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich(which I could read easily in a day or two), I’ll have a hard time beating that mark. But I will keep track again.

The first book of this year has officially been cracked. I started it last night, and couldn’t put it down. I stayed up until 3:00am reading it, helped in part by the fact that my husband has a cold and was snoring like a tractor. The first book I ever read by Jennifer Weiner was “Little Earthquakes,” it is the story of four women and how they meet because they are all pregnant at the same time. It really reminded me of how I came to have my own circle of friends, but it is also just an all around great story. I highly recommend her. She has a wonderful voice, and just a great tone that I have come to love. Here is the new one–notice also the bottle of wine that I am planning to crack to bring in the new year. The title is “Fly Away Home,” just in case you can’t read it. And the wine is Oliver’s Soft Red Wine–I can’t wait. If you have to stay home, at least enjoy yourself. Whatever you are doing, I hope you have a happy one too!

  2. [...] So there are my book goals for 2011. I am sure to continue to read the literary fluff that entertains me so (easy reading is such a stress reliever.)  I ‘m also going to keep track of all of the books I read in 2011.  I’ve never done it before but I was inspired by momoutnumbered. [...]
